Shepherds Hut with a "Living Roof"
We were asked to design a “kitchen hut” that would sit beautifully in its natural woodland setting. We created this hut that is clad in oak and features stunning oak framed windows and double French doors. To help this hut blend in to its environment, it has a “Living Roof” made from sedum. Sedum roofs are an excellent way to encourage insects that help pollinate plants, and they also have great thermal properties. This hut features a beautiful kitchen, with a dining table for people to enjoy delicious home cooked food in a cosy, natural environment.
We are often asked by our customers if they can have a kitchen area in their hut, so that they can live like they would at home. Many of our huts are used for self catering accommodation for holiday makers, so offering them a space to make a cup of tea and prepare food is important. This kitchenette features a gas hob, run off a propane gas bottle, a fridge, butler sink and microwave. There is also storage on the colourful shelving unit and in the under sink cupboards.
Keep warm and cosy!
Many of our shepherds huts feature a log burning stove to keep away the chill on those cooler days and evenings. This “Hobbit” stove by Salamander Stoves is a small and powerful, and fits perfectly in a shepherds hut interior. Once lit it soon heats up the space, and sometimes it is even necessary to open a window!
